Jimmy Sterling

Jimmy Sterling’s career started at a very young age as a backup drummer for a variety of local groups around the inner-city and suburbs of Detroit. He also performed with Motown elite’s Edwin Starr and Jimmy Ruffin which gave Sterling the opportunity to meet his musical idol David Ruffin who greatly influenced his vocal style.

Jimmy later met General Johnson leader of Chairmen of the Board and for six years recorded and toured with them as a backup drummer/vocalist. Jimmy’s first single “At Least I Tried” was released on Americom Records (based in Los Angeles, California). A few years later, due to the notoriety of “At Least I Tried”, he was offered a deal with CDS Records which brought forth the release of his well-received CD, “I Lived It All” which was widely received overseas in the U.K.

The Jimmy Sterling Experience has performed on major venues with a host of legendary acts such as: The Intruders, The Delfonics, Janice Johnson of (A Taste of Honey), The Notations, and Brenton Wood to name a few. The Jimmy Sterling Experience is solely a representation of the music of Motown.
